ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #10

Board: Arbor Shiloh Camber
Flex: Medium (6/10)
Feel: Semi Locked-In
Smart rating score: 87.0/100
Starting off the list at #10, we have the Shiloh Camber.
It's a great all round resort board that can rip carves, is good at speed, but also rides well slow - and great for jumps.
If you're looking for an all-mountain board that is camber dominant (but not too aggressive) and don't often see a lot of deep powder (or have a separate board for that), the Shiloh Camber might be up your alley.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #9

Board: Yes Typo
Flex: Medium (4.5/10)
Feel: Stable but playful
Smart rating score: 87.7/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
Described as a YES Basic on steroids, the Typo just gives you a little bit more aggression than the Basic (but still overall a more playful than aggressive feel). It has less rocker in the tip and tail giving it a bit more of a camber feel, and has a harder/faster sintered spec base.
And with a small setback stance it has a subtly more directional feel to it, than the Basic.
But it's still on the more freestyle end of all-mountain and is proficient with jumps, jibs and riding switch with ease, and butters remarkably easily, so it’s a great all-rounder.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #8

Board: Niche Story
Flex: Medium-Stiff (7/10)
Feel: Stable and semi-aggressive
Smart rating score: 88.3/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
And the number 8 board on the list, we have the Niche Story.
If you like your board a little on the stiffer side, need something that can handle hard/icy conditions really well - and gives you just a bit more for carving/speed than the average all-mountain deck, then the Story should be firmly on your radar.
Not a particularly good jibber and not super buttery but can tear it up on and off groomer a-like, when things are particularly icy or when the snow is dumping.

Board: Slash Brainstorm

Smart rating score: 88.3/100
And the #7 all-mountain snowboard on the list – the Brainstorm by Slash.
Alongside the YES Typo (see #9 above) this is the 2nd least expensive board in the list.
But price isn't the only appealing thing about the Brainstorm. This is a seriously high quality all-mountain machine ready to tear up the park, pipe, groomers and backcountry a-like.
If you're looking for the ultimate in versatility in a ride that's a little more playful than aggressive, then the Brainstorm might be the board you've been looking for.

Formerly called the One Magtek, then renamed the One LF (for “Light Frame”) - for the 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2021 models, and now just called the One, the One from Rossi, coming in at number 6, is one of the most consistent boards for do-it-all riding in any condition.
The One is also awesome for anyone who often rides in hard and icy conditions, but also excels in powder, is rather buttery and quite nimble. It can handle more speed than you'd think for all that - and you can still play in the park with it.
As far as the definition of "do-it-all" is concerned not many do it as well as the One.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #5

Board: Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Feel: Semi-Loose, on the playful side
Smart rating score: 88.3/100
The Terrain Wrecker is a snappy, energetic board, with great, easy pop that's really fun to rip in the park, on the groomers, through the trees and when things get deep.
It's centered along the effective edge, giving it a twin-ish kind of feel, but along the length of the board there is quite a bit of setback, off setting that twin feel with a more directional flavor, particularly for powder.
If you prefer a more playful all-mountain board, but one that is really versatile and can take you anywhere and do anything, the Terrain Wrecker should be high on your list.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #4

Board: Nitro Team Gullwing
Flex: Medium (6/10)
Feel: Stable (ever so slightly on the looser side of stable) and in between aggressive and playful
Smart rating score: 88.9/100
The Team Gullwing, coming in at #4, does really well at achieving a great balance between aggressive and playful, and the balance between being damp and smooth but also snappy.
It's very consistent across various terrain and capable for any style - as any good all-mountain board worth it's salt should be.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #3

Board: Capita Mercury
Flex: Medium-Stiff (6.5/10)
Feel: Stable and semi-aggressive
Smart rating score: 88.9/100
Coming in at #3 is the Capita Mercury.
The Mercury is one of the more aggressive rides on this list (but still not aggressive enough to make the "aggressive all-mountain" list - so not ultra-aggressive by any means).
But it's still something that you can slow down and play around on to an extent.
Whilst not the most buttery or jib friendly, the Mercury more than makes up for it with it's prowess for speed, carving and jumps - and pretty good in the deep stuff too.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #2

Board: Jones Mountain Twin
Flex: Medium (6/10)
Feel: Stable and in between aggressive and playful (a little more playful than previous models)
Smart rating score: 90.1/100
A mainstay on this list over the years, the Mountain Twin is extremely consistent across all categories. It’s the definition of ride-everywhere, do-everything.
This is a board I've always been comfortable with everywhere on the mountain and it’s super consistent across conditions and across riding styles.
For 2021 it got a bit of a makeover with a new Contour base and some shape changes, among other things. It has kept its overall personality, but feels a little different and overall is something that I consider an improvement over the previous models (which were already really good, so it's saying something).
The 2022 model stays the same as the 2021 model.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #1

Board: YES Standard
Flex: Medium (6/10)
Feel: Stable and in between aggressive and playful
Smart rating score: 92.0/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
The Standard has changed quite a bit over the years and it really has evolved to be the Standard by which all other all-mountain boards are measured against, IMO.
The 2015-16 model was a more aggressive-all-mountain board and then it changed into a great all-round deck capable to do whatever you want it to.
The 2018 model evolved once more – and became even better, IMO. The main changes from the 2017 model being the addition of "Mid Bite" - which helped to make the board more dynamic, better for stomping landings and better in hard/icy conditions - plus some tweaks in the sidecut and effective edge.
2022, 2021, 2020 & 2019 have kept things essentially the same as the 2018 model, but the core is now noticeably lighter - making my #1 all-mountain board, even better for 2019, 2020, 2021 & 2022.
You can still get aggressive on this board and lay down a good carve but it’s also great for jumps, spins, riding switch and it's also surprisingly buttery. And to top it all off, it rides well in powder too - particularly so, when you set your bindings up in the slam back inserts.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #11

Price: $419

Smart rating score: 84.6/100
To start the list at #11 we have the DWD Wizard Stick. The Wizard Stick is a versatile, playful all-mountain weapon.
If you're after one board that's decent at doing a bit of everything, want something more on the playful side and don't want to put too much of a dent in your wallet, the Wizard Stick ticks those boxes.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #10

Board: Burton Custom Flying V
Price: $599
Flex: Medium (5.5/10)
Feel: Semi-Loose, playful
Smart rating score: 85.2/100
The Custom Flying V is one of those boards that can ride any style, so it's great if you're after one board to ride the park, groomers, trees and in the backcountry - and however you like to ride in all those areas.
Which is basically my definition of all-mountain riding.
This board is just consistent across all categories - and has a feel that is more on the playful rather than aggressive side. If you're looking for a more aggressive version of this it also comes in a traditional camber model - but that makes it a very different board (and less versatile in my opinion).
If versatile, light and on the playful/loose side is what you're looking for, this is a great option.

2021, 2020 & 2019 have kept things essentially the same as the 2018 model, but the core is now noticeably lighter - making my #1 all-mountain board, even better for 2019, 2020 & 2021.
You can still get aggressive on this board and lay down a good carve but it’s also great for jumps, spins, riding switch and it's also surprisingly buttery. And to top it all off, it rides well in powder too - particularly so, when you set your bindings up in the slam back inserts.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #10

Board: Arbor Bryan Iguchi Pro Rocker
Price: $599
Flex: Medium-Stiff (6.5/10)
Feel: Semi-Loose
Smart rating score: 84.0/100
The Bryan Iguchi Pro Rocker is technically all rocker, but it has a feel that belies that fact. Whilst it might not be a bomber for speed, it can still lay down a carve well.
And how it performs in powder and uneven terrain, whilst still maintaining a buttery, nimble feel and still being good with jumps, makes this a very versatile, fun surfy, ride that was particularly fun in the trees.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #9

Board: Burton Custom Flying V
Price: $599
Flex: Medium (5.5/10)
Feel: Semi-Loose
Smart rating score: 85.2/100
The Custom Flying V is one of those boards that can ride any style, so it's great if you're after one board to ride the park, groomers, trees and in the backcountry - and however you like to ride in all those areas.
Which is basically my definition of all-mountain riding.
This board is just consistent across all categories - and has a feel that is more on the playful rather than aggressive side. If you're looking for a more aggressive version of this it also comes in a traditional camber model - but that makes it a very different board (and less versatile in my opinion).
If versatile, light and on the playful side is what you're looking for, this is a great option.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #8

Board: Yes Typo
Price: $449
Flex: Medium (4.5/10)
Smart rating score: 87.7/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
Described as a YES Basic on steroids, the Typo just gives you a little bit more aggression than the Basic.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #7

Board: Niche Story
Price: $574
Flex: Medium-Stiff (7/10)
Smart rating score: 88.3/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
And the number 7 board on the list, we have the Niche Story.

Smart rating score: 88.3/100
And the #6 all-mountain snowboard on the list – the Brainstorm by Slash.
Alongside the YES Typo (see #8 above) this is the least expensive board in the list.
But price isn't the only appealing thing about the Brainstorm. This is a seriously high quality all-mountain machine ready to tear up the park, pipe, groomers and backcountry a-like.
If you're looking for the ultimate in versatility in a ride that's more playful than aggressive, then the Brainstorm might be the board you've been looking for.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #5

Board: Rossignol One LF
Price: $549
Flex: Medium (6/10)
Smart rating score: 88.3/100
*HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
Formerly called the One Magtek, renamed the One LF (for “Light Frame”) - for the 2018, 2019 & 2020 models, the One from Rossi, coming in at number 5, is one of the most consistent boards for do-it-all riding in any condition.
The One is also awesome for anyone who often rides in hard and icy conditions, but also excels in powder, is rather buttery and quite nimble. It can handle more speed than you'd think for all that - and you can still play in the park with it.
As far as the definition of "do-it-all" is concerned not many do it as well as the One LF.

Smart rating score: 88.9/100
The Team Gullwing, coming in at #4, does really well at achieving a great balance between aggressive and playful, and the balance between being damp and smooth but also snappy.

A mainstay on this list over the years, the Mountain Twin is extremely consistent across all categories. It’s the definition of ride-everywhere, do-everything.
In fact it was only under 3.5 out of 5 for just one of the factors (Jibbing). This is a board I was definitely comfortable with everywhere on the mountain and it’s super consistent across conditions and across riding styles.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #2

Board: Capita Mercury
Price: $559
Flex: Medium-Stiff (6.5/10)
Smart rating score: 89.5/100
Coming in at #2 is the Capita Mercury.
I used to categorize the Mercury as aggressive all-mountain, but decided this year it was better suited to this category. So, this is probably the most aggressive ride on this list.
But it's still something that you can slow down and play around on to an extent - which is why every year I've debated putting here instead of there.
Whilst not the most buttery or jib friendly, the Mercury more than makes up for it with it's prowess for speed, carving and jumps - and pretty good in the deep stuff too.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD #9

Board: Arbor Coda Rocker
Price: $549
Flex: Medium-Stiff (7/10)
Feel: Semi-Loose
Smart rating score: 83.5/100
Whilst the Coda Rocker is technically an all-rockered snowboard, you would swear that there's some camber in there somewhere, when riding it. But there isn't - it's just Arbor's "system" rocker - which is a subtle rocker that gradually decreases the amount of rocker towards the tip and tail.
So it doesn't feel as loose as a continuous rocker usually does - and can handle speed better and has better edge-hold than you would normally expect from a full rocker. Part of that is also down to the extra flex - the stiffest board on this list.
It also has a centered stance - but it's got a directional twin shape - and definitely feels more all-mountain when riding it, than all-mountain freestyle, which is why I've included it in this catogory.

And the #7 all-mountain snowboard on the list – the Brainstorm by Slash.
Alongside the YES Typo (see #8 above) this is the least expensive board in the list.
This is a seriously high quality all-mountain machine ready to tear up the park, pipe, the groomers and the backcountry a-like.
I can’t say enough how fun this board is all over the mountain – I found it super-hard to return this deck after demoing it!
It's slipped a few places in this list compared to the last couple of years - and that's simply down to the fact that it hasn't been upgrade at all since the 2017 model, so other boards have caught up - but still a mean all-mountain machine.

The Team Gullwing, coming in at #5, is new to the list this year. The 2019 model is the first time I've been able to test the Team Gullwing and it didn't disappoint.

And the number 4 board on the list is the Story from Niche. It was good to see that the big boys aren’t the only one’s that can make great snowboards and its awesome to know there’s great competition out there to keep pushing snowboard technology further and further.
The Story is one heck of a board! The only reason you wouldn’t consider this board if you were into Jibbing in a big way.
For everything else this should definitely be an option and has no weakness outside of the jibbing (which it necessarily sacrifices to be stronger elsewhere). It is great in powder, speedy, excels on jumps and is a pipe superstar.
There’s no-where on the mountain that the Story can’t conquer – the ultimate compliment for an all-mountain snowboard.

Coming in at #2 is the Never Summer West.
This is a board that performs across the board (with only jibbing being a slight weakness) and it just has that x-factor that I can’t describe – this board feels like magic on the feet and somehow manages that elusive quality of being able to perform across a large variety of conditions and a variety of riding styles.
And it can switch seamlessly between laying down a hard carve and slowing down and slowing it down and playing around.
Want just one board for a versatile skill set, or if you're looking to develop a versatile skill set, then look no further.

The biggest change between those two models was that the reduction of the amount of camber in the profile in the 2017 model compared to the 2016 model, making it less aggressive – and maybe a little softer flexing too.
The 2018 model evolved once more – and became even better. The main changes from the 2017 model being some tweaks in the sidecut and effective edge and also creating a wider base (incorporating Mid Bite).
2019 has kept things essentially the same as the 2018 model, but the core is now noticeably lighter - making my #1 all-mountain board, even better for 2019.
You can still get really aggressive on this board and lay down a good carve but it’s also great for jumps, riding switch and riding powder.

What Would be Your Choice?
The perfect all mountain board for you in this list is not necessarily the one with the highest score. I encourage you to look at the score breakdowns to see what will be best suited for your own needs.
Thanks for reading and I hope that this list has helped to narrow down your options.

All-Mountain Board #10
Board: Ride Wild Life
Price: $429
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 82.9/100
The Ride Wild Life is almost feels like a freeride board – but a more easy going, playful version than your average freeride board.
It’s still definitely an all-mountain board, with the flex and versatility you would expect but it can also be a great choice for freeriding if you want something easier and more forgiving (and cheaper!).

All-Mountain Board #9
Board: Burton Process
Price: $499
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 84.8/100
I’ve also included the the Process Flying V’s score below. The Flying V version is different in that it has a hybrid rocker camber profile as opposed to the Process which has a traditional camber profile.
Also the Flying V version has a slightly softer flex. These things makes for some very different stronger and weaker areas as illustrated in the tables below. But both come out with a good score.
Which one you prefer would come down to what performance factors are more important to you. The Process is the more aggressive version and the Flying V is the more playful version.

All-Mountain Board #8
Board: Yes Typo
Price: $449
Flex: Medium (4.5/10)
Smart rating score: 87.2/100
- HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
Described as a YES Basic on steroids, the Typo just gives you a little bit more aggression and with a small setback stance and more rocker in the nose, it has a more directional feel to it.
But it can still handle jumps, jibs and riding switch with ease so it’s a great all-rounder.

All-Mountain Board #7
Board: Burton Trick Pony
Price: $549
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 87.2/100
The 2016-17 Trick Pony was a changed ride from the 2015-16 version and the 2017-18 model has retained those changes. And, in the opinion of this humble snowboarder, the Trick Pony changed for the better.
What used to be playful flat-to-rocker deck is now almost all camber – but it has some flat spots towards the tip and tail.
But however they’ve done it, they’ve managed to make this board really un-catchy (if that’s a word!) – so it’s still super easy to switch into switch and retains that catch free feel – but is now more aggressive, faster, holds a carve better and has way more pop.

All-Mountain Board #6
Board: Rossignol One Magtek
Price: $499
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 88.4/100
- HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
Now renamed the One LF (for “Light Frame”), the One from Rossi, coming in at number 6, sacrifices some Jibbing but more than makes up for it in other areas.
So if you aren’t that interested in jibbing and are willing to sacrifice it for performance in carving up the mountain, anywhere on the mountain that you want to go, then this might be the board for you.
The One will also be awesome for anyone who often rides in hard and icy conditions – those Magtek edges really help to grip hard and icy snow.

All-Mountain Board #5
Board: Niche Story
Price: $574
Flex: Medium-Stiff (7/10)
Smart rating score: 88.4/100
- HARD/ICY SNOW OPTION
And the number 5 board on the list, the Story, is from the niche snowboard company.
It’s definitely on the more aggressive (partly down to being the stiffest flexing board on this list) rather than playful side of all-mountain riding.
There’s no-where on the mountain that the Story can’t conquer – the ultimate compliment for an all-mountain snowboard.

All-Mountain Board #4
Board: Jones Mountain Twin
Price: $499
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 89.0/100
The Mountain Twin is extremely consistent across all categories. It’s the definition of ride everywhere, do everything.
In fact it was only under 3.5 out of 5 for just one of the factors (Jibbing). This is a board I was definitely comfortable with everywhere on the mountain and it’s super consistent across conditions and across riding styles.

All-Mountain Board #3
Board: Slash Brainstorm
Price: $449
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 89.0/100
And the #3 all-mountain snowboard on the list – the Brainstorm by Slash.
After the Ride Wild Life and next to the YES Typo (see #10 & #8 above) this is the least expensive board in the list. Yet it scores one of the highest.
This is a seriously high quality all-mountain machine ready to tear up the park, pipe, the groomers and the backcountry a-like.
I can’t say enough how fun this board is all over the mountain – I found it super-hard to return this deck after demoing it!

All-Mountain Board #2
Board: Never Summer West
Price: $569
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 90.9/100
Coming in at #2 is the Never Summer West.
Into it’s 3rd year of existence now (after replacing the Never Summer Cobra), the West is only getting better.
This is a board that performs across the board (with only jibbing being a slight weakness) and it just has that x-factor that I can’t describe – this board feels like magic on the feet and somehow manages that elusive quality of being able to perform across a large variety of conditions and can switch between laying down a hard carve and slowing down and slowing it down and playing around seamlessly.

All-Mountain Board #10
Board: Never Summer Snowtrooper
Price (USD): $519
Flex: Medium-Soft
Smart rating score: 84.1/100
The Snowtrooper is designed to be good at anything and to be able to ride anywhere and it doesn’t disappoint.
With a flex rating on the softer side of medium this is going to be awesome for anyone who likes a slightly more playful/casual ride. This is the softest flexing deck on this list and a great choice for the more casual all-mountain rider.

All-Mountain Board #8
Board: YES Standard
Price (USD): $499
Flex: Medium-Stiff
Smart rating score: 87.2/100
The Standard is a changed board this season. It was a more aggressive-all-mountain board in the 2015-16 model but it’s now just a great all-round deck capable to do whatever you want it to.
The biggest change is that there is now less camber in the profile than the 2016 model, making it less aggressive. But you can still charge a mean carve, stomp landings and ride at speed.
It’s still quite a medium-stiff ride so you can definitely still ride aggressively on it, but now it’s just overall a bit more cruisey compared to the 2016 model.

The One Magtek from Rossi, coming in at number 7, sacrifices some Jibbing but more than makes up for it in other areas.
So if you are not that interested in jibbing and are willing to sacrifice it for performance in carving up the mountain, anywhere on the mountain that you want to go, then this might be the board for you.

Described as a YES Basic on steroids, the Typo just gives you a little bit more aggression and with a small setback stance and more rocker in the nose, it has a more directional feel to it.
But it can still handle jumps, jibs and riding switch with ease so it’s a great all-rounder.

The Trick Pony is a changed ride this year. And, in the opinion of this humble snowboarder, has changed for the better.

But however they’ve done it, they’ve managed to make this board really un-catchy (if that’s a word!) – so it’s still super easy to switch into switch and retains that catch free feel – but is now more aggressive, faster, holds a carve better and has way more pop.

All-Mountain Board #4
Board: Never Summer West
Price (USD): $569
Flex: Medium
Smart rating score: 89.6/100
With the Cobra out of the Never Summer line up, the West is now the premier all-mountain deck from Never Summer – and doesn’t disappoint, filling those rather big shoes easily.
This is one of 2 Never Summer Decks in this list but it’s a very different board to the Snowtrooper. It’s stiffer and a more aggressive ride than the more casual Snowtrooper. You can definitely still play around with this board – but where it comes into it’s own is when you want to dig in for a carve and ride at pace.
The West was new for 2016 so it’s in its second year now.

And finally our #1 all mountain snowboard – the Brainstorm by Slash. It was #1 for the 2015-16 model and it remains #1 for 2016-17.
Next to the YES Typo (see # 6 above) this is the least expensive board in the list. Yet it scores the highest. O.k. it’s first equal technically but it’s cheaper than the Mountain Twin so I think it deserves top spot!
This is a seriously high quality all-mountain machine ready to tear up the park, pipe, the groomers and the backcountry a-like.

Buying Past Season Models
Often models don't change that much from year to year so if you can find a past season model, it will likely be close enough to the latest model but you can get it cheaper, if available and in a suitable size for you. For past year's models check out the links below to see if they still have any left.
