Amongst the Kicking Horse accommodation options there a few “ride-in, ride-out” options and of course this is the ultimate in convenience but Golden is also just 14km away and is another great option for accommodation.
The Kicking Horse Resort is located in the Purcell Mountains (just west of the rockies) in British Columbia, Canada (near the provincial border to Alberta).
It boasts the 4th largest vertical drop in all of North America and is endowed with an abundance of interesting and challenging terrain.
So this mountain is a no brainer for serious riders to visit – but where to stay while you ride?
Kicking Horse On-Mountain Accommodation
Kicking Horse has a good few on-mountain options for accommodation so you can stay right at the base of the resort. The ultimate in atmosphere and convenience.
Amongst those that are right on the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and are ride in/out (or at least walk-able to the lifts) are:
- Glacier Mountaineer Lodge
- Palliser Lodge
- Winston Lodge
- Vagabond Lodge; and
- Copper Horse Lodge
Check out the link below to find more information on these properties.
Hint: Search for “Golden, British Columbia, Canada” and then click on “distance from city centre” at the top of the results. Then go to page three of the results to find the above accommodations, starting with Palliser Lodge at “5.7 km from city centre”.
Golden Accommodation
Golden is great option too and has the reputation for being a great little town. It is situated just 20 minutes drive from Kicking Horse. This is also a great option for those who want to check out Golden and its nightlife & restaurants and absorb its great atmosphere.
The permanent population is barely 4,000 but I suspect that population swells to well beyond that during the snowboarding season – and even at other times of the year I imagine that Kicking Horse and other surrounding attractions mean that Golden is seldom if ever only 4,000.
To accommodate for this the town has developed into a well set up hub for visitors. Tourism is now one of the major economical pillars for this small community.
The next closest town is Banff just across the provincial border in Alberta. However Banff is a 2 hour drive away so would make for a long day to travel from there. And no need when you have so many great options at the resort itself and in Golden.

Best way to Book
Booking.com is my preference for booking accommodation for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, you can order accommodation by ratings, reviews, distance from city centre and price.
Secondly, I find it a user friendly and hassle free booking method and finally, because they have a large selection of properties and large number of users – so plenty of unbiased user reviews for all the properties.
