ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #5
Bindings: Flux GT
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 84.9/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Starting us off, at #5, we have Flux's GT bindings.
The GT are technically new for 2023, but they are essentially 2022's DSW but with a different name. I would say that the main reason they got a new name was because the DS changed but the DSW/GT didn't. Previously the DSW was essentially just the DS with a winged highback (hence the W) but now with the DS' changes that's no longer strictly the case.
The GT offer that really middle of the road 5/10 flex, making them great for pairing with boards in that 4/10 to 5/10 flex range. They have Flux's renowned ankle support and great carving response that belies their flex.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #4
Bindings: Burton Cartel
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 87.1/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
Coming in at #4, we have Burton’s Cartel bindings.
The Cartel's are very versatile bindings that can compliment a wide range of different types of boards.
They will match with pretty much any board you put them on – maybe not the best on the very stiffest boards or the very softest boards but otherwise they’re versatile enough to handle everything in between (which is most boards out there).
They have a nice medium flex, good board feel and great shock absorption that will allow you to still ride the park if you want to. But they won’t stop you from carving up the groomers or exploring the backcountry either.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #3
Bindings: K2 Lien AT
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 88.7/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
Next on the list, at #3, we have K2’s Lien ATs.
They offer the ideal flex (medium pushing towards mid-stiff), response and board feel for tackling everything the mountain has to offer from the park to the backcountry and provide great ankle support and easy adjustability.
What’s unique about Lien ATs is that they feature K2's Tripod tech with interchangeable pods. You get 3 sets of these pods and you can put in different sets depending on the kind of flex you’re going for – there’s a softer set, a mid set and a stiff set. For 2019 & later models the pod at the heel is larger and not really a pod anymore.
A great option particularly if you're looking for one set of bindings to cover a whole quiver.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #2
Bindings: Burton Genesis
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 91.4/100
Flex: Medium (5.5/10)
The Genesis pack a lot of tech into a mid-flex binding and are good at pretty much everything. Easy butterability, great shock absorption and a nice, versatile medium flex. They are lightweight and super comfortable (helped in equal parts by the 2 part hammock highback, super conforming straps, their awesome shock absorption and a canted footbed).
Basically, if you’re after something mid-flexing and super comfortable, like you're not strapped into anything at all, you can’t go wrong with the Genesis.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #1
Bindings: Union Strata
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 93.5/100
Flex: Medium (6/10)
And finally in at #1 we have the Union Strata.
Like with most Union bindings the Strata possess a response that's a little better than their flex would suggest.
And since the Strata use a mini-disc, they get that great Union mini-disc board feel as well. A very versatile binding that can transcend styles and accommodate a wide variety of different boards.
For the 2023 model they have gone down in price (almost unheard of). They have a slight downgrade in hardware, but are otherwise the same great bindings - so now a real bargain as well.

Kicking off the list at #5 are Union’s Force bindings.
The Force are a great all-round pair of bindings, that have the bonus of coming in at a really reasonable price tag for what you get.
A great option for those looking for a solid quality all-mountain binding but don't want to break the bank.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #5=
Bindings: Flux DS
Smart rating score: 84.9/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Next up we have Flux’s DS bindings.
The DS’s have the butterability of softer flexing bindings but also manage to have the response of a stiffer flexing binding – so you really can ride freestyle without compromising too much on responsiveness for when your bombing and carving up the mountain.
These bindings, typical of Flux bindings also have awesome adjustability and it’s all tool-less (apart from actually screwing the bindings into the board, of course!) so you can adjust just about everything on the fly. And they have Flux's typically good ankle support.

The Cartel's come in Burton’s Re:Flex (which fits standard 2 x 4 insert packs, which most boards have, as well as 4 x 4 in addition to Burton’s Channel system) and in an EST version (which only fits Burton’s Channel System). Both systems provide good board feel but you get a little bit more board feel with the ESTs and a bit more response too, but sacrifice a little in shock absorption and comfort (from my experience).

And coming in at #4 we have Burton’s Cartel bindings.
The Cartel's are very versatile bindings that can compliment a wide range of different types of boards.
They will match with pretty much any board you put them on – maybe not the best on the very stiffest boards or the very softest boards but otherwise they’re versatile enough to handle everything in between (which is most boards out there).
They have a nice medium flex, bordering on medium-stiff, good board feel and great shock absorption that will allow you to still ride the park if you want to. But they won’t stop you from carving up the groomers or exploring the backcountry either.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #3
Bindings: K2 Lien AT
Price: $269
Smart rating score: 88.7/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
Next on the list, at #3, we have K2’s Lien ATs.
They offer the ideal flex, response and board feel for tackling everything the mountain has to offer from the park to the backcountry and have great boot support and easy adjustability.
What’s unique about Lien ATs is that they feature K2's Tripod tech with interchangeable pods. You get 3 sets of these pods and you can put in different sets depending on the kind of flex you’re going for – there’s a softer set, a mid set and a stiff set. For 2019 & 2020 the pod at the heel is larger and not really a pod anymore.
These bindings will work with virtually every type of board and are compatible with almost every board out there, so if you’re looking for one set of bindings for your whole quiver, then these will do a great job.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #2
Bindings: Union Strata
Price: $279
Smart rating score: 92.5/100
Flex: Medium (6/10)
At #2 we have the Union Strata. These bindings we're new for 2019 and return for their 2nd year in 2020 (it's mostly the same in the 2020 model except for upgraded ankle and toe straps).
Like most Union bindings the Strata are lightweight and their response is a little better than their flex would suggest.
And since the Strata use a mini-disc, they get that great Union mini-disc board feel as well. They're the perfect middle ground between the Contact Pro and the Falcor - a very versatile binding that can transcend styles and accommodate a wide variety of different boards.
The Strata’s are compatible with 4 x 2 binding hole patterns and the channel system, but not 4 x 4 binding mounting patterns.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #1
Bindings: Burton Genesis
Price: $349
Smart rating score: 93.0/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Not as responsive as others in this list, but what they fall behind in, in response, they make up for in every other category.
Outside of response the Genesis are near perfect. Easy butterability, great shock absorption and a nice versatile medium flex.
Score Breakdown for the Genesis
Like most Burton bindings they come in an EST version, which fits Burton’s Channel System and the Re:Flex version (which fits 2 x 4, 4 x 4 as well as the Channel system).

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #5
Bindings: Flux DS
Price: $275
Smart rating score: 84.9/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Kicking off the list at # 5 are Flux’s DS bindings.
The DS’s have the butterability of softer flexing bindings but also manage to have the response of a stiffer flexing binding – so you really can ride freestyle without compromising too much on responsiveness for when your bombing and carving up the mountain.
These bindings, typical of Flux bindings also have awesome adjustability and it’s all tool-less (apart from the base plate disc, of course) so you can adjust just about everything on the fly.
I rode the 2016 model of these bindings for the best part of 2 seasons (after buying a pair) and they’ve stood up to everything I could throw at them. So in terms of durability they are tough too.

ALL-MOUNTAIN BINDING #4
Bindings: Burton Cartel
Price: $279
Smart rating score: 87.1/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
And coming in at #4 we have Burton’s Cartel bindings.
Score Breakdown for the Cartel
They come in Burton’s Re:Flex (which fits standard 4 hole systems as well as the Burton’s Channel system) and in an EST version (which only fits Burton’s Channel System). Both systems provide great board feel but you get a little bit more board feel with the ESTs but sacrifice a little in shock absorption and comfort.

The biggest change for the 2018 models compared with the 2017 models is the new Waffle ankle strap.

All Mountain Binding #3
Bindings: K2 Lien AT
Price: $269
Smart rating score: 90.0/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
Next on the list, at #3, we have K2’s Lien ATs.
The Lien ATs (not to be confused with the Lien FS – which are for freestyle riding) feature K2’s tripod base plate technology.
They offer the ideal flex, response and board feel for tackling everything the mountain has to offer from the park to the backcountry and have great boot support and easy and abundant adjustability.
What’s unique about these bindings is the interchangeable pods in their tripod tech. You get 3 sets of these pods and you can put in different sets depending on the kind of flex you’re going for – there’s a softer set, a mid set and a stiff set. Whilst this isn’t going to allow these bindings to be super-soft or super-stiff with the new pods – it does offer versatility and the ability to really tweak the feel.
These bindings will work with virtually every type of board and are compatible with almost every board out there, so if you’re looking for one set of bindings for your whole quiver, then these will do a great job.

All Mountain Binding #2
Bindings: Union Ultra
Price: $419
Smart rating score: 91.1/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
At #2 we have the Union Ultra.
These certainly aren’t the cheapest going around – but they are some of the lightest (just 710 grams! – they’ve shed another 30 grams since the 2017 model) and strongest.
They actually have quite a stiff flexing high-back (made with Forged Carbon) which helps to give them extra response – the most responsive on this list. But the base-plate flex is more medium (5/10).
Whilst they’re super-responsive, they also have great board feel and are really easy to butter – thanks in no small part to the mini-disc system which minimizes the dead-spot on the board and helps the board to flex more with the board, but at the same time they’ve got about as much shock absorption as any binding I’ve ridden.
If you’re familiar with Union’s Contact Pro – these are like the Contact Pros but on steroids!
So if you’ve got the cash to spend and you want a binding that’s not only light, comfortable and damp but that also has great board feel and response, then the Ultras are a great choice.
The Ultra’s are compatible with 4 x 2 binding hole patterns and the channel system.

All Mountain Binding #1
Bindings: Burton Genesis
Price: $349
Smart rating score: 93.7/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
And for the 4th year running the #1 spot goes to Burton’s Genesis bindings!
A near perfect score only let down by a lower responsiveness score but you’ve got to weigh up with all-mountain bindings between leaning towards more playful or more responsive.
Outside of that the Genesis are near perfect. Easy butterability, great shock absorption and a nice medium flex to aid in freestyle riding matched with snug boot support, Burton’s impressive adjustability and a super comfortable, lightweight ride.
The most unique feature of these is the two piece hammock highback.
Basically, if you’re after something mid-flexing, you can’t go wrong with the Genesis.
Like most Burton bindings they come in an EST version, which fits Burton’s Channel System and the standard version (which fits Burton’s 3D snowboard mounting system and the standard 4 hole system).

All Mountain Binding #2
Bindings: K2 Lien AT
Price (USD): $269
Smart rating score: 87.5/100
Flex: Medium (6 out of 10)
Next on the list at number 2 we have K2’s Lien ATs.
The Lien ATs (not to be confused with the Lien FS – which are for freestyle riding) feature K2’s tripod base plate technology.
They offer the ideal medium flex for tackling everything the mountain has to offer from the park to the backcountry and have great boot support and adjustability.
I preferred the look of the 2015-16 model, but I prefer the performance of the new 2016-17. The Lien AT made this top 5 last year but it’s bumped up from 4th to 2nd this year from improved performance. Check out the vid below for more on the changes made for the 2017 model.
The Lien ATs are designed to fit any snowboard (4 hole, 3D or Channel).
So How Did the Lien ATs rate?

All Mountain Binding #1
Bindings: Burton Genesis
Price (USD): $349
Smart rating score: 90.5/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
And for the 3rd year running the #1 spot goes to Burton’s Genesis bindings!
The most unique feature of these is the two piece hammock highback – check out the video below for more info on that.
Like most Burton bindings they come in an EST version, which fits Burton’s Channel System and the standard version (which fits Burton’s 3D snowboard mounting system and the standard 4 hole system).

Buying Past Season Models
Often models don't change that much from year to year so if you can find a past season model, it will likely be close enough to the latest model but you can get it cheaper, if available and in a suitable size for you. For past year's models check out the links below to see if they still have any left.
