Who are the Hologram Most Suited To?
The Hologram are best suited to those looking for a binding that will give them access to deeper/moderately aggressive carves but not at the sacrifice of slow speed agility.
Also if you need good board feel, shock absorption and ankle support, they are strong in those areas too.
Best matched to a board in the 4/10 to 7/10 flex range, and most ideally suited to boards in the 5/10 to 6/10 flex range.
Not for beginners, IMO, but intermediate riders should have no issues with these bindings.
The Hologram in More Detail
O.k. let’s take a more detailed look at what the Hologram are capable of.

Set Up

Bindings angles: +15/-15
Stance Width: 555mm (22”)
Board tested with: Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker
Boots tested with: Adidas Response ADV, size US9.5
Baseplate Length: 25.6cm (10.1”) – that’s measured on the top of the footbed. 24cm (9.5") on the underside of the baseplate.
Baseplate Length Fully Extended (footbed): 27.1cm (10.7")
Highback Height: 18.5cm (7.3”)
Weight: 980 grams (2lbs, 3oz)*
* for one binding, including screws and disc. The average weight of a small sample size of around 80 bindings (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024 models) I have weighed is 920 grams (2lbs). But most of those were medium's and this was a large. So it's lighter than normal for a large, I imagine. And on snow they felt normal in terms of weight.
Flex
There's a good amount of twist in the high back and some give when you pull straight back on it. In hand it feels about medium.
The ankle straps are relatively stiff, with the toe straps being softer.
On snow, it feels very medium too. Just on the stiffer side of medium, but no more than 6/10 by my feel.
Responsiveness
On a carve, the Hologram felt similar to my control bindings (Burton Malavita). You could carve relatively aggressively with them, but they had a neutral effect on how well I could make my board carve. They were a little too big for me in the Large, and I would have preferred the medium, so they are perhaps better in a better fit.
For slow speed, quick turns, they were decent. Similar to my control bindings again.
Board Feel/Butterability
They provided better board feel than I was expecting. Not bad at all. No mini-disc or anything, but I suspect it's the flexible heel loop that helps here.
Pop/Ollie Power
I felt they gave a little less pop vs my control bindings. But again, with a better fit, I think they could have been better.
Adjustability
Heel Cup: No
Stance Width: Yes can run disc horizontally and full size disc. Good amount of stance width micro adjustability.
Highback Lean: Yes, but it's not obvious. I couldn't figure out how to do it and its not tool-less, but I've been assured you can adjust it.
Ankle Strap Position: No
Toe Strap Position: No
Ankle and toe strap length: Tool-less.
Gas pedal/toe ramp extension: Yes
Highback Rotation: Yes, but not independent of the high back lean.
Compatible with: 2x4 | 4x4 | Channel
Shock Absorption
Decent padding across the footbed. The padding in toe and through the mid-foot is harder feeling and then softer/more cush under the heels.
On snow they absorbed shock from landings and general chatter really well.
Comfort
Despite being a little big for my boots, I found them still quite comfortable.
Ankle Strap: Nice ankle strap. And comformed well.
Toe Strap: Ditto ankle strap. Because of sizing couldn't quite get them as tight as I would have wanted. Tight enough to hold on, but I couldn't tighten any more and would have liked to - but that was a sizing issue. And still comfortable.
Canted Footbed: Yes
Padded Footbed: Decent padding (see shock absorption above)
Highback: Bit of padding on top and down the medial side of high back in kind of a shape of a “7”. And no calf-bite, which is the main thing.
Ankle Support
Ankle support was good and felt it could have been even better in the Medium size. No way to adjust the ankle strap position, so if you preferred it higher up your ankle or lower, you wouldn't be able to do it. I was happy with the position it comes in.
Entry/Exit
Ratchets released easily when exiting on the go and overall felt nice and smooth. Have to move ankle strap over highback to get it out of way when placing foot in or it tries to sneak under your foot, but that's easy to do - and standard for a lot of bindings.

The Holograms have no discernable weaknesses and are a really solid all-round binding that would work well for a lot of different riders.
I was impressed with their combination of board feel and shock absorption. But ankle support and slow speed maneuverability were also strong points.

Hey Nate, I’ve been using Holograms for 4 years. Just so you know, the forward lean can be adjusted on the holograms. You have to loosen the bolts at the base of the highback (the bolts that you also use to rotate the highbacks) and move them towards the back. It’s not as convenient as other bindings (not toolless for one thing and not independent from highback rotation) but it does work. I run quite a lot of foward lean on mine…
Hi Philon
Thanks for pointing that. I couldn’t work out any way to adjust it, I will have to have a play with that next time I get my hands on some. Appreciate it.
No problem. They’re definitely the least user-friendly binding out there when it comes to forward lean adjustment but at least it’s there.
They’re not for everyone (not that they’re hard to ride or anything but they are quite different compared to pretty much everything out there) but it seems like they were made for me. Best binding ever in my case.
