This post is just going to be a quick look at the Never Summer factory.
The company (Never Summer Industries) was named after the Never Summer mountains in Colorado. They make handmade snowboards and manufacture for a number of other brands too – and have been doing so for over 30 years.
Where is the Never Summer Factory?
Based out of Denver, Colorado, Never Summer is one of the only US snowboard brands to be manufactured in the US. Whilst there are many brands that are US owned and have their headquarters in the US, most have their manufacturing done somewhere else.
There are exceptions to this of course, with the likes of Mervin being the other major player still manufacturing in the US.
Who is Never Summer?
Whilst having their factory in the US isn’t completely unique (though it’s rare), what is unique is their ownership. Never Summer is still a family owned company.
Now I don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the snowboard industry’s companies, but I’d say it’s a fairly good bet that being a family owned company with manufacturing in the US is unique.
Tim and Tracy Cassidy founded Never Summer in 1991. At time of writing, that makes Never Summer Industries now 30 years old.
But this of course wasn’t the beginning of their history. The Cassidy brothers started making snowboards as far back as 1983 with their first snowboard company Swift Snowboards. That didn’t work out, but they were young and snowboarding wasn’t super popular yet.
Their second attempt has been an undisputed success.
What is built at the Never Summer Factory?
Whilst they are called Never Summer Industries, the Never Summer factory does more than just manufacture Never Summer snowboards – they also produce snowboards for Sims, Academy and High Society. This is in addition to skis for Icelantic, Fatypus, Harvest, Mountain Man and Enabling Technologies.
How are Never Summer snowboards Built?
Never Summer’s snowboards are handmade in their factory. I won’t go into any detail there, as the following provides a great overview of the manufacturing process:

The Boards
If you’re outside the US and have no interest in how the company is run (family, hand made or otherwise), then none of the above might matter to you. What you might care about is the end result.
In my opinion, from my experience, Never Summer makes some of the best boards around – and I test a lot of them!
The quality and the technology that goes into these boards is top-tier and whilst everyone has their different tastes, and there are some of their line that I like more than others, overall the product they produce is right up there with the best.
