The Boardroom Future of Snowboarding demo day at Cypress Mountain was a great event, once again, and I am grateful that the Boardroom and Cypress Mountain could put this event on again this year.
This years Future of Snowboarding demo day took place on March 4th, 2017, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
Conditions on the Day
Plenty of fresh powder to be found. Had been puking it for a good few days leading up. Still bumpy and chundery in places as it was a Saturday but mostly soft good conditions on the groomers and plenty of powder off.
Good mix of conditions to test snowboards in – ideal almost given the variable conditions to test the boards in a bit of everything.
Brands on Show
The following brands made an appearance at this year’s event. Hopefully I haven’t missed any here!
- Lib Tech
- Gnu
- Ride
- Union
- YES
- Never Summer
- DC
- Capita
- Flux
- Now
- Stepchild
- Salomon
- Niche
- Switchback Bindings
- Dinosaurs Will Die
- Smith (goggles)
- Spy+ (goggles)
- Electric (goggles)
Gear That I demoed on the Day
My focus on the day was to demo gear from GNU/Lib Tech and Ride – as these are two of the brands that I don’t currently have a contact for, for demoing gear.
The following we’re tested:
- Lib Tech Skate Banana 156cm
- Lib Tech Travis Rice Pro Snowboard 157cm
- GNU Billy Goat Snowboard 156cm
- Ride Burnout 155cm
- Ride War Pig 154cm (short/wide)
- Ride Wild Life 157cm
- Bent Metal Transfer Bindings
- Ride Capo Bindings
- Ride EX Bindings
- Ride Revolt Bindings
I will release reviews for all of the above (plus all of the other gear I test) throughout the year.
Favorite Board of the Day
I think I most enjoyed riding the Travis Rice Pro but I am little bit biased towards Aggressive All-Mountain-Freestyle snowboards.
I also really enjoyed riding the Ride Wild Life at the end of the day. It was a lot more forgiving than a lot of the other boards I had been riding (the Lib Tech Travis Rice Pro, Ride Burnout and GNU Billy Goat are all quite aggressive). And since my legs were getting tired by that point, it was nice to have a board that I could be lazy on and skid turns and have no consequences for it!
Setup
Like last year, the tents were in the perfect place (half way between 2 lifts).
There were events like the run, skate & penguin walk (they called it something else but I can’t remember what they called it :-)) and the highest ollie contest (they definitely put my ollies to shame!)
The Boardroom and Cypress Mountain
A big thanks to the Boardroom for again organizing another great demo day and to Cypress Mountain for hosting said event. And a big thanks to all the brands that took part too.
Stay tuned for the reviews. I’ll probably start publishing them in April this year to make sure I can get all of them published by the end of the year (or maybe more realistically early 2018!).
