Thanks for reading
So that’s Rome’s boards for 2018. My categorizations are a bit different to Rome’s but this is where I see these boards fitting.
There have been a few changes in the line-up but overall, there’s still a feel of freestyle among most of their boards until you get to the powder end of things.
Hi Nate,
Great Site! for an 3-4 lvl. female rider starting to link turns Would the 2018 Heist be an option to keep the progress going or is it to “early” for that and better Look for a board like the Rossi Gala, Capita Paradise, maybe the Rome Kashmir? Or something other? Size is 5-4 and weight ~140. thanks for your thoughts!
Best
Tim
Hi Tim
I think the Heist is possibly going to be a little challenging – it’s getting on the stiffer side and it’s quite an aggressive ride now too in terms of its camber profile. If it was the older model heist (pre 2016), then it would be doable – but now it’s more for an advanced freestyle rider.
The Gala and Paradise would be good options, IMO. The Kashmir might also be on the more challenging side – not as aggressive as the Heist but still relatively stiff and not the easiest to link turns on if you’re not that experienced.
In terms of size, I would say something around a 147 to 148 would be a good length.
So if you did decide to go heist, the 146 would be the best bet and for the Kashmir 146 too – though it would depend on the boot size too.
For the Gala and Paradise and Gala, I would say 147 for Paradise and 146 for Gala.
Hope this helps
Hi Nate, thanks that, it helps! As something above the Gala/Paradise with a 5/6 Flex and Flat to Rocker Profile, do you have a recommendation on that as well? As an Orientation She Rented a 15/16 K2 Raygun which was fine but wants a ladies deck now. Anything that comes to your mind?
Thx
Tim
Hi Tim
You could look at the K2 Bright Lite – it’s probably the closest equivalent to the Raygun, if you were looking for something like that – but it will be softer – still around 4/10 flex. The Capita Paradise has around that 5/10 flex, but it’s not flat-to-rocker.
The Rome Lo-Fi Rocker is a flat-to-rocker with a 5/10 flex, so that’s definitely an option too – a more freestyle oriented board but so is the Heist – and you can definitely still use it on the groomers.
Burton Day Trader is another one – but it’s powder specialized, so I wouldn’t go for that one.
Flat-to-rocker profiles tend to be softer flexing, so there aren’t heaps of options there – but the K2 Bright Lite and Rome Lo-Fi Rocker could work, if you’re after that flat-to-rocker profile.
Hope this helps
Hey Nate,
thanks for the advice Lo-Fi sounds good but is too expensive. But with the Lofi in mind and after some discussions it will be the 2018 Yes Emoticon now, going away from Flat-to-rocker. Only question is size – 146 or 149, what do you think. Company recommends 149 for the weight and size specs, I am not sure it is too large (168cm/65kg). What do you think?

Hi Tim
Great choice IMO. My Wife rides the Emoticon and loves it (also around a level 3-4 rider).
In terms of size, I would put 168cm/65kg on around a 150 as their “all-mountain, advanced level” size. So, I think that she could ride the 149. If she wanted something that felt a little more easy going then the 146 could work too. It would be an easier board to ride, more maneuverable at slower speeds and a coulpe of other benefits (jibs, spins, butters etc) but the longer version will be better in powder, more stable at speed and better for carves. At a level 3-4, I think she would be fine on the 149, but if she was looking for a super-casual ride, then the 146 is also an option.
Hope this helps
