If you are on a tight budget the Burton Citizen is one of the best beginner binding options. But the friendly price tag is only one reason they make this list.

They are super forgiving and easy to control at slow speeds but at the same time comfortable, easy to use, easy to adjust and with a really consistent, predictable response. This all helps with easy progression and building confidence.

And finally at #1, we have the Union Rosa bindings.

The Rosa have been our number 1 beginner bindings for a few years running now - and for good reason.

These are the equal lowest priced binding in this list – and that’s great for a beginner, but it’s not the only thing that’s important. What got the Rosa’s on this list was their ability to make the learning process easy and fun.

The Rosa’s have a nice medium-soft, forgiving flex for easy turning and the ability to help control your board at slow speeds. They are also smooth and consistent, really comfortable and straight forward to adjust and setup.

WOMEN'S BEGINNER BINDING #5

Flow Juno Fusion 2023

Bindings: Flow Juno Fusion

Smart rating score: 87.6/100

Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)

Starting off the list in #5 is the Flow Juno Fusion.

The Juno is a nice easy going binding, that will help you to progress your snowboarding - or to start out your journey.

It's also a great option for those that want a speed entry binding. A lot of beginners start out strapping in sitting down. If you don't like that idea, then these can have you strapping in standing up - and even on the go with a bit of practice - from day one. This can also be a great option for those that ride with skiers often.

Coming in at #4 is the Union Milan.

The Milan are the highest priced on this list, but they're also the highest quality. They're not strictly beginner bindings at all, but they do work well as beginner bindings.

In fact, it works so well as a freestyle binding, it's #1 in my top 5 women's freestyle list.

If you're a high-end beginner, looking for a binding that will take you further through your progression (particularly if you think you'll get into freestyle) than a typical beginner binding, but is still easy to ride, the Milan is definitiely worth looking at.

Coming in at #4 is the Flux GU.

The GU’s are the most expensive on this list, but are by no means expensive for bindings in general (still around the same as the average price for all the bindings I rated for this category).

And they are otherwise almost perfect beginner bindings, with a great forgiving medium-soft flex, super comfortable, easy to get in and out of, easy to adjust and offer great ankle support.

These are great choice for beginners who want to progress quickly but who also feel they need a bit more support for their ankles.

Ride CL-2 2021

Bindings: Ride CL-2

Price: $159

Smart rating score: 91.9/100

Flex: Soft (2/10)

In at #3 we have Ride’s CL-2 bindings.

Ride has completely revamped their binding line up for the 2020-21 season. The CL-2 is the softest and lowest priced option in the women's line.

It's a nice forgiving entry level binding that makes it easy to progress and matches well with soft flexing boards. The CL-4 is another option from the line if you're more of a high-end beginner and have a slightly bigger budget.

If you are on a tight budget the Burton Citizen is one of the best beginner binding options (that or the Rosa at #1 below or the #3 above). They come with a very friendly price tag and with great specs for the beginner.

And finally at #1, we have the Union Rosa bindings.

These are the equal lowest priced binding in this list – and that’s great for a beginner, but it’s not the only thing that’s important. What got the Rosa’s on this list was their ability to make the learning process easy and fun.

The Rosa’s have a nice medium-soft, forgiving flex for easy turning at and the ability to help control your board at slow speeds. They are also smooth and consistent and really comfortable and straight forward to adjust and setup.

WOMEN'S BEGINNER BINDING #5

K2 Meridian Bindings

Bindings: K2 Meridian

Price: $209

Smart rating score: 86.0/100

Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)

Starting off the list in #5 is the K2 Meridian. These are the second most pricey bindings on this list - but they still come in just on the average price of the beginner bindings I looked at.

And more importantly they are also great freestyle bindings. So, if you think you'll get into riding freestyle at any point, these are a great investment. But that's not what got them on this list of course - they are great for those just starting out, or anyone that might have a little bit of experience but still looking to master the basics.

The Meridian feature K2s Turnable TriPod™ Chassis system, which makes for great board feel, along with the mini-disc. The closest men's equivalent is the K2 Lineup.

You get a bit more performance and a bit more technology, and pay a little more for it when compared to the Citizen’s (Burton’s other bindings that made this list - see #2).

You also get tool-less adjustments which is always handy. Since 2016 (and this remains for the 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020 models) you also get Burton’s flex slider tech which helps when getting in/out of these bindings.

But most importantly you get bindings that are easy to learn on, easy to turn on and that have a nice smooth response making them very predictable.

Women’s Beginner Binding #5

Price (USD): $149

Smart rating score: 85.9/100

Starting out the list at #5, we have the Union Rosa bindings.

They are the lowest priced binding in this list – and that’s great for a beginner, but it’s not the only thing that’s important. What got the Rosa’s on this list was their ability to make the learning process easier.

The Rosa’s are great as both beginner and freestyle bindings, they have a nice medium soft, forgiving flex and a mid-range responsiveness. This mid-range of response is great for beginners. They’re response enough to behave predictably and consistently but not so responsive that they would be unforgiving of errors.

Flex: Medium-Soft (bordering on soft)

Last season I rated the K2 Yeah Yeah’s as the #1 beginner bindings for women.

What changed this year?

As well as a slight tweak in the rating system, it was the price. The 2016 Yeah Yeah’s were $179. The 2016-17 versions are $219.

That lost the Yeah Yeah’s some ground when it comes to their pricing score (they are now the most expensive on this list), but they’re still great bindings for beginners if you are willing to invest a little bit more.

Women’s Beginner Binding #3

burton-stiletto-womens-bindings-2017Bindings: Burton Stiletto

Price (USD): $189

Smart rating score: 88.0/100

Flex: Medium-Soft

At number 3 we have Burton’s Stiletto bindings.

You get a bit more performance and a bit more technology, and pay a little more for it when compared to the Citizen’s (Burton’s other bindings that made this list see #1).

You also get tool-less adjustments which is always handy. Since 2016 (and this remains in the 2017 model) you also get Burton’s flex slider tech which makes it really easy to get into the bindings.

You can get the Stiletto’s in either Burton’s Re:Flex (to fit standard 4 hole mounting systems) or EST (to fit Burton’s Channel binding mounting system).

Women’s Beginner Binding #2

flux-gu-womens-bindings-2017Bindings: Flux GU

Price (USD): $205

Smart rating score: 88.0/100

Flex: Medium-Soft

And coming in at #2 is the Flux GU.

The GU’s are the 2nd most expensive on this list, but are by no means expensive for bindings in general.

And they are otherwise almost perfect beginner bindings, with a great forgiving (but not too soft) medium-soft flex, super comfortable, easy to get in and out of, easy to adjust and offer great boot support.

Women’s Beginner Binding #1

burton-citizen-womens-bindings-2017Bindings: Burton Citizen

Price (USD): $149

Smart rating score: 92.7/100

If you are on a tight budget the Burton Citizen is the ultimate beginner binding for you, hands down. They come with a scarcely believable price tag and with great specs for the beginner.

If I was starting out again, turned into a women and was on a tight budget, these are the bindings I would ride!
