The following is a quick overview of the 2022 GNU snowboards lineup.

First I will take a look at any new boards for the 2021-22 season, and any old 2020-21 boards that aren't returning with a 2022 model. 

Then I'll place each board into the categories where I see them fitting best.  

2022 GNU Snowboards

New 2022 GNU Snowboards

The new boards for 2021-22 are: 

  • GWO - New Freestyle deck, but it's essentially the old Carbon Credit with a new name. The one major difference between this and the 2021 Carbon Credit is that this isn't asymmetrical. Otherwise looks to be the same board with a different name.   
  • Essential Service - Whilst there was a board in the line called the Essential Service last year, the new Essential Service is very different. And the board that was the Essential Service last season started the season as the Mullair - and the Essential Service 2021 was the same board as the Mullair 2020 but with different graphics. The 2022 Essential Service is a different beast altogether. It's more all-mountain than Freeride. It's a directional twin shape, softer flexing than the old Mullair/Essential Service and has a C2 profile, rather than C3 (amongst other differences). It's essentially a completely different board. Note that the sizing specs in the GNU catalog are a typo.
  • Banked Country - New C3, stiff, tapered directional freeride beast. Think the specs are incorrect in the catalog for this one as well.
  • Ravish - New C2, mildly tapered, directional women's freeride board 

Exiting 2021 GNU Snowboards 

The 2021 boards that aren't returning with a 2022 model: 

  • Mullair/Essential Service - despite there being a new 2022 Essential Service (see more on this above), the closest replacement to this board is the Banked Country - though it's certainly not a like for like replacement
  • T2B Directional - it was a short lived stay for the T2B in it's most recent incarnation. The 2021 model took on a directional take on it's previously all-mtn-freestyle self, but doesn't return with a 2022 model.
  • Klassy - the long standing Klassy bows out this year. It does get somewhat of a replacement in the Ravish - though they are quite different boards. But they're the same category of board
  • Whip - her stay was short - only 2 seasons and it's off the books again
  • 4 - like the Whip, the 4 only got 2 seasons in before dropping out 
  • Billy Goat - this was the perhaps the biggest loss of all those bowing out for 2022. The Mullair/Essential Service was a sick board too, but the Banked Country kind of makes up for that loss. There's nothing that really replaces it - although in some ways, the Banked Country is kind of between the Billy Goat and old Mullair/Essential Service, so those 2 have kind of been consolidated into the Banked Country.  
  • Carbon Credit - but the new GWO is essentially the same board but without asym tech
  • Semi-Gloss - the kids version of the Gloss is technically no more. However, the Gloss did pick up one of the Semi Glosses two sizes, the 130, so it sort of lives on there in one size

Below I have categorized GNU's 2021-22 lineup. This is according to the categories here at SnowboardingProfiles.com and not necessarily the same as how GNU might label them.

Of course these are only broad categories as every board is different, but this is a rough guide.

Summary

So there you have the 2022 GNU snowboards. 

Quite a bit of change and an overall reduction of models, with 8 dropping out and 4 new ones coming in. 

Out with the Old

From the men's side the Mullair/Essential Service, Billy Goat, 4 T2B and Carbon Credit all drop out (though the latter is essentially the new GWO). 

From the women's side the Klassy and Whip are gone. 

The kids' semi-gloss is also gone, but with one of the sizes moving under the Gloss.   

In with the New

The new Banked Country goes a ways to replacing the hole left by the Mullair/Essential Service and Billy Goat.

Whilst you might think the Essential Service would be a replacement for the 2021 Essential Service, in reality it's quite a different board. 

Though certainly not the same board, the new Ravish fills the gap left by the outgoing Klassy. 

Changes to Existing Boards

No major changes for the existing boards, but a few tweaks and sizing changes, such as: 

  • The Head Space drops it's 152W size
  • The RC C3 gets 2 new sizes - 158W and 162W
  • Core of the Gremlin looks to have changed from Balsa/Aspen/Paulownia to Aspen/Paulownia
  • Gremlin gets 3 new sizes - 148, 152 & 158
  • The Hyper Kyarve was renamed simply the Hyper, but is otherwise identical
  • The Gloss steals the 130 size from the outgoing semi-gloss
  • The B-Nice looses it's asymmetry but is otherwise identical
  • Barrett gets new size - 155

I was able to test a good number of GNUs 2022 collection and I'll release my reviews for those through the year.
