Overview of the Ryme’s Specs

Who is the Ryme Most Suited To?

The Ryme is a great option for someone looking for a board that's a little more aggressive than average but nothing too aggressive. Something that's still got some playfulness to it, but also something you can also rip carves on and bomb.

Best suited to riding groomers, park or riding groomers/side of groomers like they're a park and good in trees. Not the best in powder, but otherwise pretty versatile. 

Not for beginners, all good for intermediate and up for who the above sounds like them.

*based on a small sample size of around 20 women's boards that I've weighed in 2020, 2021 and 2022 models. The Ryme is really close to average when it comes to weight and Jade said that it felt normal in terms of weight.

Powder

Not ideal for powder, but did fine in the shallow powder we had. If it was any deeper though, it's likely that it would be a bit of an effort to keep that nose afloat. It's a twin and without much rocker. 

Carving & Turning

Carving: A good board for laying down carves on. It's not a monster for high speed carves, but moderate speed carves, particularly shorter, sharper carves, it's really fun. Holds an edge well. 

Turning: Doesn't take too much effort to initiate turns on and just a fun board to turn with. It's got that little bit of oomph, but without taking too much muscle to get it humming. 

Maneuverability at slow speeds: It's pretty nimble at slower speeds. Not ultra nimble, but still fun to take into the trees and you can ride it slower and it doesn't feel like a tank. A really good middle ground between being good at speed and being good slow. 

Skidded Turns: Fairly forgiving of skidded turns, but if you get too lazy with them, there is some consequence. 

Speed

Not an out and out bomber, but really decent at speed. Could get a good bit of pace under it and continued to feel pretty stable. 

Uneven Terrain

Crud: Just like most things with this board, it was kind of in the middle. It wasn't bucked around super easy, but could still get bucked around a little - but when it did it was something that you could correct on fairly easily. 

Bumps: It was nimble enough to be fun to weave through bumps without feeling like you were having to muscle it around. And when going over bumps it was something that was still able to hug the bumps fairly well.

Jumps

Overall a good amount of pop and a good balance of being both stable but forgiving on landings and approach. 

Pop: Good pop and quite easy to extract as well. Jade also rode the GNU Ladies Choice and Pro Choice that day and felt the Ryme had more pop than the Ladies Choice and less than the Pro Choice, but closer to the Pro Choice. 

Approach: A really good balance between being stable enough on faster approaches, but also being easy enough to correct, speed check etc and maintain control of the board. 

Landing: Again, that really good balance between being stable on the landing, not bucking or folding, but also had enough give, so that if you didn't get it perfect you had some forgiveness of errors.  

Side-hits: Really fun. Good pop, easy to extract, nimble enough to make more challenging approaches doable and forgiving enough on landings that you didn't need the perfect spot to land on. 

Small jumps/Big jumps: Medium are her sweet spot. 

Switch

Pretty easy to ride switch on. Feels pretty much the same both ways.

Spins

Really good for spins. Light enough, good easy pop and good for taking off and landing switch. 

Jibbing

It's not super easy to jib with, but it's also not bad for jibs. It's something that you will be perfectly fine jibbing with if you're a fairly confident jibber. If you're just learning, then it's going to be more challenging. 

Butters

Pretty easy to butter - particularly for the flex. Feels softer when pressing the tip and tail than you'd think for the overall flex, when you're riding it. 

Score Breakdown and Final Verdict

Overall, the Ryme is a really nice all-mountain-freestyle deck, that's at home in icy conditions, in the park, on groomers and in trees.

A really good one-board quiver for those who don't see deep powder or choose not to go in it - or a great option as your daily driver to compliment your more powder oriented board you have for powder days.
