Of the 29 different men’s bindings that I rated for suitability as beginner bindings:
BEGINNER BINDING #10
Bindings: K2 Line Up
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 83.9/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
First up, at #10, we have the K2 Lineup. The Lineup also make our top 5 freestyle list, which underlines the quality of these bindings. But they are also nice and forgiving and easy to ride, so make a great beginner binding as well.
Not the cheapest beginner binding (2nd most pricey on this list) but still reasonably priced versus the average binding.
And Kudos to K2 for not raising prices, virtually across their whole 2023 lineup. When the price of pretty much everything seems to be going up, it's nice to see some prices stay the same.

BEGINNER BINDING #9
Bindings: Burton Mission
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 83.9/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Next up, we have the Burton Mission.
The Mission is a little too stiff for most beginners to be ideal. However, they make a great beginners option for bigger riders or for particularly strong/athletic riders.
It also works well for those who are more high-end beginner/bordering on intermediate, who want a binding that will take them to the next level and something they won't have to upgrade from too soon.

BEGINNER BINDING #8
Bindings: Ride C-4
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 86.0/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
In at #8, we have Ride's C-4 bindings. Their C-2 also comes into this list (see #2). The C-4 is a little stiffer than the C-2, but still a nice easy flex for those just starting out.
The C-4 is a simple yet quality design that can help you to get your snowboarding journey underway or take you from that beginner to intermediate level.

BEGINNER BINDING #7
Bindings: Nidecker Muon-X
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 86.0/100
Flex: Medium (5/10)
Like the Mission (see #9 above), the Muon-X is a little stiffer than ideal for most beginners. However, it's a great option for bigger riders or particularly strong/athletic riders.
Also like the Mission, the Muon-X also works well for those who are more high-end beginner, than complete beginner, and want a binding to push them a little more and one that won't need upgrading for longer.

BEGINNER BINDING #6
Bindings: Flux TW
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 86.6/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
The TW isn't strictly a beginner binding. It's a higher quality binding that could be used by more advanced rider's looking for a softer flex.
But it's also a good option for beginners, particularly if you're a higher-end beginner looking for something that will take you further through your progression than your typical beginner binding.
They're the highest priced on this list, but you can use them for longer through your progression, so if you've got it in your budget, they can work out long-term cost-wise.

BEGINNER BINDING #5
Bindings: Flow Nexus Fusion
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 87.6/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
Next up, at #5, we have the Flow Nexus.
These are a great option for those beginners looking for an easy entry/exit binding. They've still got all the qualities of a great beginner binding, but allow you to get in and out of them quickly and easily (with a bit of practice, you can do it on the go as you get off the lift). Can be a good option for those that ride with skiers a lot.

BEGINNER BINDING #4
Bindings: K2 Sonic
- US
- CA
Smart rating score: 88.2/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (2/10)
The K2 Sonic is a good option to start off with if your budget is tight and you're looking for fast progression.
It won't take you much past the high-end beginner to low intermediate phase - you'll need to upgrade - but it will take you there quickly and without hurting the bank.
It's the equal cheapest on this list (along #1 below) and the softest equal on the list too, along with #2 & #3, below.

BEGINNER BINDING #3
Bindings: Burton Freestyle
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 89.8/100
Flex: Soft (2/10)
Coming in at #3 we have Burton's Freestyle bindings.
The price is right with the equal lowest price on this list.
But that's not the only reason these bindings made the list. The Freestyle's have a nice soft flex which helps with maneuverability at slow speeds, and is more forgiving of errors.
They have awesome adjustability for lower end bindings, so you can get the fit and feel just right.
A great choice for those on a tighter budget.

BEGINNER BINDING #2
Bindings: Ride C-2
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 91.9/100
Flex: Soft (2/10)
In at #2, we have the Ride C-2 bindings.
The C-2 is Ride's softest flexing and lowest priced binding and is an easy-on-the-wallet option to get your snowboarding progression underway.
They offer up easy rideability and decent enough quality.
The C-4 is also worth checking out (see #8 on this list) if you have a bit more budget and want a slightly stiffer flex - particularly if you're a higher end beginner looking for a binding that can help you get further into your progression, without changing bindings as soon.

BEGINNER BINDING #1
Bindings: Union Flite Pro
- US
- CA
- UK/EU
Smart rating score: 93.5/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (3.5/10)
And taking out the #1 spot again this year, we have the Union Flite Pros.
Like the C-2, Freestyle, Sonic and Nidecker Muon-X bindings on this list, the Union Flite Pros, are super low cost (equal lowest on this list, along with the Sonic). So this is another great choice for the beginner who can’t, or doesn’t want to, invest too much.
But you still get bindings that are quality – even Union’s entry level bindings are decent quality.
But most importantly they are ideally suited to beginners, with a nice easy flex. They are really forgiving, maneuverable at slow speeds and have a consistent smooth response.
These bindings are also super light (I weighed the 2022 model at just 680 grams!) – if you can find a lighter binding at this price-point (or at any price point for that matter!), I’d like to know about it!

Of the 27 different men’s bindings that I rated for suitability as beginner bindings:
A lot of the bindings are suitable not just for beginners but also for more advanced riders and for specific styles like freestyle – but for the purposes of this post, the bindings are only being assessed for their suitability for beginners.
Note: A beginners binding should definitely not just be considered a beginner binding just because it’s cheap – if it’s too low quality or if it's too stiff, that’s far from what a beginner should be using. Price is definitely a factor but it shouldn’t be the only factor.
BEGINNER BINDING #5=
Bindings: Union Contact Pro
Smart rating score: 88.2/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
Starting the list off at #5 we have Union's Contact Pro.
It's the second most expensive on this list, but it's also the highest quality for riding beyond the beginner phase. Really good as a beginner binding, but can take you well beyond the beginner phase.
Especially good as a freestyle binding. In fact it's #1 in the top 5 freestyle list!

BEGINNER BINDING #5
Bindings: Arbor Hemlock
Price: $199
Smart rating score: 86.6/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
To start the list off in #5, we have the Hemlock from Arbor. One of just 2 bindings in Arbor's men's bindings line, the Hemlock are the softer counterpart to their other binding, the Cypress.
The Hemlock is nice and forgiving for beginners, but still has a quality feel to it - but still with a decent price-tag. The ratchets, which used to feel sticky have improved for the 2020 model.

BEGINNER BINDING #4
Bindings: Flux DSL
Price: $265
Smart rating score: 86.6/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10) - 1 being the softest and 10 being the stiffest
Next on the list, coming in at #4 we have Flux's DSL bindings.
The DSL were new for 2019 and continue in 2020 and are like a softer version of Flux's DL. They're still just a touch stiffer than the top 3 in this list, but still a very good flex for beginners - and the kind of binding that you can hold on to and use as a great freestyle to all-mountain-freestyle binding as you progress.
These are the most expensive in this list, so you'll need a reasonable budget for them, but the upside is that you get a step up in quality, whilst still getting a binding that's forgiving and maneuverable at slow speeds - and they are an investment, particularly if you want to get into freestyle riding as you progress.

BEGINNER BINDING #3
Bindings: Burton Freestyle
Price: $149
Smart rating score: 88.7/100
Flex: Soft (2/10)
Coming in at #3 we have Burton's Freestyle bindings.
The price is right! - just $149 (USD)
But that's not the only reason these bindings made the list. The Freestyle's have a nice soft flex which helps with maneuverability at slow speeds, and is more forgiving of errors.
Not only that they have awesome adjustability for lower end bindings, so you can get the fit and feel just right.
A great choice for those on a tighter budget.

BEGINNER BINDING #2
Bindings: Burton Custom
Price: $199
Smart rating score: 90.3/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (3/10)
In at #2, we have the Burton Custom bindings.
Even though the Customs are more expensive than the Freestyle (and the next bindings on this list), they are still a good price for bindings – and for the price, these bindings are awesome value-for-money. I’m sure this is due, in part, to the technology from higher end bindings being passed down the line.
But more importantly than the price, these are comfortable, easy to use and adjust and have a nice forgiving flex with a consistent response.

BEGINNER BINDING #1
Bindings: Union Flite Pro
Price: $149
Smart rating score: 92.5/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (3/10)
And taking out the #1 spot again this year, we have the Union Flite Pros.
Like the #3 bindings on this list, the Union Flite Pros, are super low cost.
These bindings are also super light (just 760 grams per binding - by my weighing, with disc and screws) – if you can find a lighter binding at this price-point, I’d like to know about it!

There you have it – that’s my top 5 men’s beginner snowboard bindings for 2019-20.

>>TOP 5 BEGINNER BINDINGS (Latest Season)
Of the 29 different men’s bindings that I rated for suitability as beginner bindings:
BEGINNER BINDING #5
Bindings: Flux DSL
Smart rating score: 86.6/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10) - 1 being the softest and 10 being the stiffest
The first bindings on the list, coming in at #5 we have Flux's DSL bindings.
The DSL are new for 2019 and are like a softer version of Flux's DL. They're still just a touch stiffer than the top 3 in this list, but still a very good flex for beginners - and the kind of binding that you can hold on to and use as a great freestyle binding as you progress.
These are the most expensive in this list, so you'll need a reasonable budget for them, but the upside is that they are an investment, particularly if you want to get into freestyle riding as you progress.
Score Breakdown for the DSL

Shock Absorption | 2.5 | 2.5/5 |

BEGINNER BINDING #4
Bindings: K2 Lineup
Price: $209
Smart rating score: 87.1/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (4/10)
Like the DS above, the Lineups are a great investment if you think you'll get into freestyle riding later.
They're great for beginners but also quality freestyle bindings.
And whilst, they are more expensive than the top 3 on this list, they are cheaper than #5 above and they are still under the average price of those that I rated for this list
The Lineup are new for 2019 and are the replacement for the Lien FS, which K2 are no longer making. However, they are very similar to the Lien FS - so really an evolution of them, with a new name, a new ankle strap and a lower price tag (which is always nice!).

Men’s Beginner Binding #5
Bindings: Burton Freestyle
Price: $149

Men’s Beginner Binding #4
Bindings: K2 Lien FS
Price: $249
Smart rating score: 90.9/100
Flex: Medium-soft (4/10)
The K2 Lien FS’s take the #4 spot.
The Lien FS is primarily designed as a freestyle binding – but it’s also a nice and forgiving feel that beginners will love.
You’ll pay a little more for these (they are the most expensive on this list) but you’ll also see more performance too. Despite scoring low in terms of price, they make up for it in other areas.
Also if you think that your future holds some freestyle riding in it, then this will be the perfect binding to take you into that realm. In fact this binding also took out 2nd spot in my Top 5 Freestyle Bindings so they are one of the better freestyle bindings around as well as being great for beginners.
Their ability for freestyle riding is one of the reason’s the price-tag is higher.

And the #3 Men’s Beginner Bindings are Flux’s PR.
The PRs are awesome bindings for beginners. They have the perfect mix of all of the right features in the right areas, whilst still maintaining a great price tag and still being really well built.
These are the lowest priced bindings on this list.

Bindings: Burton Custom

But that’s not the only reason these bindings made the list. The Freestyle’s have a medium-soft flex which is what I consider to be the perfect flex for beginners. It’s forgiving but not so soft as to be too spongy.
Not only that they have awesome adjustability so you can get the fit and feel just right. And with Burton’s new flex slider system (introduced into the Freestyle Bindings in 2016 and continued for the 2017 model).
A great choice for those on a tighter budget.

Like the #5 bindings on this list the #4, Union Flite Pros, are super low cost. So this is another great choice for the beginner who can’t, or doesn’t want to, invest too much.

Men’s Beginner Binding #2
Bindings: K2 Lien FS
Price (USD): $249

Flex: Medium-soft
The K2 Lien FS’s take the 2nd spot.
You’ll pay a little more for these (they are the most expensive on this list) but you’ll also see more performance too.
Again the lowest score was in responsiveness but they make up for it by being really comfortable and super adjustable.
Also if you think that your future holds some freestyle riding in it, then this will be the perfect binding to take you into that realm. In fact this binding also took out 2nd spot in my Top 5 Freestyle Bindings so they are one of the better freestyle bindings around as well as being great for beginners.

Men’s Beginner Binding #1
Bindings: Burton Custom
Price (USD): $189
Smart rating score: 90.8/100
Flex: Medium-Soft (3/10)
And taking out the #1 spot we have the Burton Custom bindings.
For the price, these bindings are awesome value-for-money. I’m sure this is due, in part, to the technology from higher end bindings being passed down the line.
The only real weakness is in responsiveness but these should still respond perfectly well for the purposes of beginner and intermediate riders and everywhere else this binding is perfectly suited to the beginner.
Adjustability, being a hallmark of Burton bindings, is top notch even on these lower end bindings.
