Since it’s coming up to Christmas time I keep thinking about what kind of snowboard a snowboarding Santa would ride. Strange I know but it keeps popping up in my head so I had to write it down.
O.k. first let’s take a look at Santa’s physical characteristics and then I’ll take a guess as to what his preferred style might be.
Santa’s Physical Characteristics
I tried to find Santa’s exact height and weight and foot-size stats – but it seems he keeps those pretty secret and Santa’s Wiki page doesn’t have this info.
But legend has it that he’s a pretty jolly guy so I’m going to take a stab and guess that he’s:
Weight: 240lbs (110kg)
Height: 6 ft 1 inch (185cm)
Santa’s Style
I think Santa is pretty diverse.
I mean, he does live in the North Pole so there aren’t too many hills there so I think he would do his snowboarding holiday’s in Alaska.
Freeriding
When he goes to Alaska I think he likes to freeride in the backcountry – away from crazed fans on the groomers. I mean he might ride through the resort for a few photo opportunities but he prefers it when he can be at one with nature.
Freestyle
After freeriding, his next most preferred style is freestyle in the park.
O.k. so he’s a big guy for riding freestyle and I can’t see him doing any backflips – but with all those elves to build jumps, boxes and rails for him it would be a waste not to use them.
So when he’s back in the north pole he likes to spend his time snowboarding in his own private park – well not quite private – he lets Mrs Claus and the elves use it too – he is a pretty generous guy after-all.
Santa’s Snowboards
I’m going to say that Santa has 2 boards – his first one is freeride and his second is freestyle. After all he’s got elves to make him as many boards as he wants!
Santa’s Freeride Snowboard
Given his height and weight Santa will need a really long board to carve the backcountry with.
Length: 168+cms
He’s going to want to have decent edge-hold for all the ice he’s likely to encounter – but will also see his fair share of powder so float in powder will also be important.
He’s also very accustomed to speed (that slay has got to travel pretty fast to get to all of the houses in the world in one night!) so he’ll want his board to be super-fast too.
If Santa asked me to recommend him a board for freeriding I would have to go with the following:
- Rossignol XV Magtek 174W: This board was made for Santa. It has great edge-hold, is beautiful in powder and is fast as hell. Also it comes in a 174cm length which would be great for Santa’s larger frame.
- Arbor A-Frame 170: Ditto the XV Magtek, the A-Frame is a great carver, powder rider and is super-fast. It also comes in a suitable length for Santa’s needs
- Jones Flagship 172
Maybe he’d even have 3 boards as he’d probably want one of his freeride decks as a splitboard.
Santa’s Freestyle Snowboard
For Santa’s freestyle snowboard we can of course go shorter. In this case I’m thinking:
Length: Between 158cm and 162cm
It was a little harder to find freesyle boards suitable for Santa’s physical features but here’s what I’d recommend for Santa:
