Why This Board Was Chosen

I was surprised about this board being cheaper for the 2024 model than it was for the 2023 model. But now my jaw is really dropping - because the 2025 model has gone down in price yet again. 2 years in a row actually going down, not up.

That made the Relapse an easy choice to retain the title it first grabbed last year. The 2025 model is now just $399, when it was $425 for the 2024 model and $449 for the 2023 model. Long may the trend continue!

The Relapse is a good $88 less than the average price of all the current freestyle snowboards that we've rated - and well above the average score. In fact, it's #10 in this year's Top 10 Freestyle Snowboards (which doesn't take price into account).

Some other notable numbers:

  • The top 16 of the 33 freestyle boards had an average price was $529.
  • The Relapse was 10th - and was $130 cheaper than the average in the top 16.
  • Of the top 16, the Relapse was the lowest priced.
  • There were only 2 boards in the entire list of 33 that were cheaper than the Relapse and those two boards had an average score of 77.4/100 (vs the Relapse's 85.9/100

Why This Board Was Chosen

The Warden was an obvious choice, being almost $100 cheaper than the average for this category and scoring well above the average score. There are some honorable mentions, but nothing really came close to the Warden as the choice for best value-for-money all-mountain board.

The Warden was rated as our #7 pick for this year's Top 10 All-Mountain Snowboards list.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category went down by $17 compared to last year
  • The average price for this category is $36 lower than the all-mountain-freestyle category (see above) but $38 higher than the freestyle category (see above).
  • The average price for the top half (top 15) was $570, making the Warden $141 cheaper than those that scored in the top half of this category!

Why This Board Was Chosen

In a category with an average price like this one does, it's rare to find a good option that costs less than $500. The Sensor Team fills that role to a tee.

It's the lowest priced board in the whole category, yet it still scores above the average score for the category.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category was coincidentally the same, despite some price changes for some of the boards and 4 boards removed from the list and 3 boards that were new to the list.
  • The average price for this category is $103 higher than the all-mountain category (see above). It is the 3rd highest priced category only lower than Freeride and Aggressive All-Mountain (see below).
  • The Sensor Team ranked 7th of the 14 boards, despite being $129 cheaper than the average price.

84.9/100

Why This Board Was Chosen

There was no question that the PYL would again be the choice for best value-for-money freeride board this year. And, surprisingly (pleasantly) it's actually gone down in price by $50 for the 2025 model! Cementing its place even more firmly here.

It's a three-peat for the PYL as it took the top spot here in the last 2 years as well.

This one is probably the easiest choice of any of the categories. It was #3 in our top 10 freeride snowboard list this year and it is now $164 cheaper than the average price! Yes, you read that correctly.

It's not only the lowest priced option in the freeride top 10, it was the cheapest equal option for the whole top half of the list (top 20).

If I was to google value-for-money definition, I wouldn't be surprised to just see a picture of the PYL!

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price of this category went up by $19 compared to last year.
  • The average price for this category is the highest of all the categories - $26 higher than the next highest category (aggressive all-mountain).
  • The average price for the top half (top 18) was $670, making the PYL a massive $171 cheaper than those that scored in the top half of this list.

Why This Board Was Chosen

The Dancehaul comes in at $88 cheaper than the average price for this category but a good amount above the average rating. Good enough for it to make #10= in our Top 10 Mellow Freeride Snowboards list.

The average price of the other boards that made the top 10 was $667 - which the Dancehaul betters price-wise, by $168.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category went up by $18 compared to last year.
  • The average price for this category is $76 lower than the freeride category (see above), which isn't surprising, given that stiffer boards are typically more costly and this category features directional boards that are 6.5/10 flex or less.
  • The average price for the top half (top 15) was $635, making the Dancehaul $136 cheaper than those that scored in the top half of this list.
  • Of the 6 boards not named the Dancehaul and that were $499 or under the average score was 80.1. The Dancehaul scored 87.1.

Why This Board Was Chosen

Nothing has been able to knock the Prime off its perch here for a while now - but one board did come very close and really is a first equal, which was the Rossignol Ampage Mind Expander - which came in equal on points and at the same price.

The Prime is the cheapest equal I looked at for this category (and that's saying something in a beginner category) and ranks 2nd overall in my top 10 beginner snowboards list.

It's a good $106 cheaper than the average price. A steal for that first board to progress on.

Price is taken into account for the scores for beginner boards – so this is somewhat skewed for this category.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category went down by $2 compared to last year
  • The average price for this category is the lowest of all the categories, naturally being a beginner list - and with those that are suited to this category being softer flexing snowboards.
  • Price is taken into account for the scores for beginner boards – so this is somewhat skewed for this category.
  • The average price for the top half (top 20) was $412, making the Prime $63 cheaper than those that scored in the top half of this list. The bottom half of the list had a higher average price than the top half though - because price in this case influenced the scores.

Why This Board Was Chosen

A very rare thing happened in the snowboard world, and in the world in general: The price of the Arbor Relapse went down!

And with that it managed to snap away the title of Snowboarding Profiles' best cheap freestyle/park snowboard away from the Burton Good Company (which is still great value-for-money too - see alternatives below), which was last year's winner. The 2023 model was $449 and it is now $425.

The Relapse is a good $64 less than the average price of all freestyle boards I looked at - and well above the average score. In fact, it's #9 in this year's Top 10 Freestyle Snowboards (which doesn't take price into account).

Some other notable numbers:

  • The top 18 of the 36 freestyle boards had an average price was $507.
  • The Relapse was 9th - and was $82 cheaper than the average in the top 18.
  • Of the top 18, the Relapse was the lowest priced.

The Bataleon Whatever is a playful all-mountain freestyle board that offers great value for money.

It’s my 9th overall pick for all-mountain-freestyle snowboards (which doesn't take price into account) and it’s $53 cheaper than the average snowboard in this category, while being a good bit above the average score.

Some other notable numbers:

Another Bataleon entry here and this one was unanimous and uncontested. To a point that I have to wonder if someone wrote the pricing down wrong on this board.

Why This Board Was Chosen

Seems crazy to have a $579 board make a "cheap" snowboards list, of course, but if you're looking for an aggressive all-mountain-freestyle board, you're looking at least $549 (of the 15 I rated - this is a pretty niche category).

And the Gamma APX is $49 cheaper than the average price for boards in this list and scores more than the average score. It ranked #4 in this year's Top 5 Aggressive All-Mountain Freestyle list.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category went up by $14 compared to last year
  • The average price for this category is $86 higher than the all-mountain category (see above).
  • The average price for the top half (top 7) was $653, making the The Gamma APX $74 cheaper than those that scored in the top half of this list.
  • There were only 2 boards cheaper in the 15 board list and they had an average score of 83.8.

The Nidecker Escape Plus usurped the Rome Stale Crewzer this year, but it was a closely run thing (Stale Crewzer still makes the honorable mentions below).

It's a nice $93 cheaper than the average price in this category and scores right on the average score.

Some other notable numbers:

  • The average price for this category is $80 higher than the all-mountain category and $6 lower than the aggressive all-mountain freestyle category (see above)

And the Relapse went up by $59, so whilst it's still good value for money (see alternatives below), it's no longer the best value, in my opinion.

The Good Company is a good $35 less than the average price of all freestyle boards I looked at - and well above the average score.

Why This Board Was Chosen

The Stale Crewzer isn't the most aggressive, aggressive all-mountain board going around, but that's the nature of snowboard pricing.

More aggressive tends to mean stiffer and stiffer almost always means more expensive, when it comes to snowboards. So the less aggressive options tend to be the not as stiff ones, so tend to be less aggressive. That said, the Crewzer is still a more aggressive than average board - or else it wouldn't be in this category at all.

And at a price $74 cheaper than the average but with a score pretty above the average, the Stale Crewzer is the best value for money when it comes to this category.

Some other notable numbers:

83.7/100

Why This Board Was Chosen

Whilst not the most aggressive, aggressive all-mountain board going around, it's still something you can get aggressive on. And at a price over $87 cheaper than the average but with a score pretty close to the average, the Nitro Team Camber is the standout when it comes to this category.

It’s the 3rd cheapest overall that I looked at in this category and was also ranked 9th best.

Alternatives

In a category that has a very high average price, there aren't too many cheap options, but the

  • Jones Frontier (though only semi-aggressive) ($479 | 80.9 points); and
  • the Slash ATV ($529 | 91.0 points) is another good cheaper option (ranked #1 in my aggressive all-mountain list)

Yes there are some cheaper freestyle snowboards – but in terms of value for money you can’t go past the Happy Place.

So with a score well above the average and a price well below the average, and ranking above a number of boards that cost a good bit more than it, the Outerspace Living is the obvious choice here. It’s also the cheapest equal in all of the boards that I looked at in this category this year.

This board was the one that surprised me the most out of all the boards I demoed this year.

Another great option is the YES Basic – same price ($399) and scored 82.0/100. Still above the average score and more than $100 cheaper than the average price.

Why this board was chosen

Another Capita selection – and another no-brainer. The DOA is more than $100 cheaper than the average priced board in this category – and was my #1 ranked Aggressive All-Mountain-Freestyle snowboard. So, of course, way above the average score.

The Lib Tech Hot Knife, YES Ghost and Ride Helix all deserve mention here too. All $31 less than the average price, but all above the average score.

YES Libre 2018Board: YES Libre

Price: $369

SnowboardingProfiles.com Rating Score: 81.7/100

No. of all-mountain snowboards looked at:27
Cheapest Board I Looked at:$299
Average price of all-mountain snowboards:$490
Average Rating Score:80.9/100

Why this board was chosen

Now the most popular snowboard category – and the best value snowboard in this cateogory (in this humble author’s opinion) is the YES Libre.

This board is a huge $121 less than the average price – but it still scores more than the average score. If your budget is tight but you still want a quality all-mountain snowboard, this is the go-to, IMO.

Honorable mention to the Slash Brainstorm ($449 and 89.0/100), YES Typo ($449 and 87.2/100) and the Ride Wild Life ($429 and 82.9/100).

The Best Cheap Aggressive All-Mountain Snowboard

Jones Explorer 2018Board: Jones Explorer

Price: $449

SnowboardingProfiles.com Rating Score: 84.3/100

No. of all-mountain snowboards looked at:14
Cheapest Board I Looked at:$449
Average price of all-mountain snowboards:$577
Average Rating Score:82.5/100

Why this board was chosen

At a price over $100 cheaper than the average but with a score above the average, the Jones Explorer is the top choice for this category and the standout when it came to this category. It’s the cheapest I looked at in this category and was also 5th best.

There wasn’t much else in an category with a high average price – though the Ride Berzerker is another good cheaper option ($499 and 81.5/100).

The Best Cheap Freeride Snowboard

Salomon Super 8 2018Board: Salomon Super8

Price: $449

SnowboardingProfiles.com Rating Score: 81.5/100

No. of freeride snowboards looked at:20
Cheapest Board I Looked at:$379
Average price of freeride snowboards:$599
Average Rating Score:82.1/100

Why this board was chosen

This board only scored around the average for freeride snowboards but it’s significantly cheaper than the average price – $150 less to be precise. If you’re on a budget that’s some serious coin to be saving. Especially for a board that is still of good quality that can do for you what you need it to.

In a pricey category such as this, the Super 8 was the standout. The Rossignol Krypto also deserves mention ($499 and 81.5/100).

The Best Cheap Beginner Snowboard

Rossignol Circuit 2018Board: Rossignol Circuit

Price: $299

SnowboardingProfiles.com Rating Score: 96/100

No. of beginner snowboards looked at:47
Cheapest Board I Looked at:$299
Average price of beginner snowboards:$437
Average Rating Score:85.7/100

Why this board was chosen

This was the cheapest equal board that I looked at – and it was the highest that I rated as of those costing this price.

Price is taken into account for the scores for beginner boards – so this is somewhat skewed in this case – but I still don’t think you’ll find a better beginner board for a better price without going into the budget brands and then you’ll be sacrificing on quality.

Why this board was chosen

The Slash Happy Place is a great freestyle board even without having a good price. It rates way above the average score in this categoty but costs a good $43 less than the average price.

Yes there are cheaper freestyle snowboards – but in terms of value for money you can’t go past the Happy Place.

The average score for the 11 boards that cost less than $399 was 77.1. The Happy Place scored way above that – the next closest in score for boards under $399 was the Rossignol Retox (79.7 points). The next best value was the Rome Factory Rocker ($369 with 79.1 points).

Cheapest Board I Looked at:$299
Average price of freestyle-all-mountain snowboards:$509
Average Rating Score:79.9/100

Why this board was chosen

This was a bit of a no brainer. It’s my 5th overall pick for all-mountain-freestyle snowboards (not taking price into account), yet it’s also more than $100 cheaper than the average snowboard in this category.

So with a score well above the average and a price well below the average, and ranking above a number of boards that cost a good bit more than it, the YES Basic is the obvious choice here.

There were actually only two boards that I looked at that were cheaper – and they scored 70.8 and 69.7 points (well below the average) and ranked 26th and 28th respectively out of 28.

Why this board was chosen

I really wanted to put something different here – since I already have a Slash board above and because this is already topping my Top 10 All Mountain snowboards list (which doesn’t take price into account). But it’s just too good a value to ignore.

This board is $61 less than the average price – but it’s as far above the average score as any of the boards I rated. I couldn’t go past it as the best value all-mountain board going around.

Yes you can get cheaper all-mountain boards – but not ones of this quality.

The next cheapest boards that I looked at scored significantly lower $399 (76.8 points), $399 (69.8 points), $329 (65.2 points).

Honorable mention to the YES Typo which is also $449 and wasn’t far behind the Brainstorm with 88.4 points.

Yes there are a lot of boards that ranked higher (Super 8 was 15th out of 20) but all of the boards above it were at least $100 more apart from one (Rossignol Krypto $499  with 82.6 points – this was the winner of this section last year but it was only $399 then).

rossignol-district-amptek-snowboard-all-17Board: Rossignol District

SnowboardingProfiles.com Rating Score: 100/100

No. of beginner snowboards looked at:44

Why this board was chosen

This was the cheapest equal board that I looked at – and it was the highest that I rated as a beginner board – enough said!

Price is taken into account for the scores for beginner boards – so this is somewhat skewed in this case – but I still don’t think you’ll find a better beginner board for a better price without going into the budget brands and then you’ll be sacrificing on quality and a board that won’t enable you to progress very far.
