2022 Ride Snowboards

The following is a quick overview of the 2022 Ride snowboards lineup.

First I'll cover any new boards for the 2021-22 season, and then any 2020-21 boards that aren't returning with a 2022 model. 

Then I'll place each board into the categories where I see them fitting best.  

2022 Ride Snowboards

New 2022 Ride Snowboards

The new boards for 2021-22 are: 

  • Split Pig - Ride's first split board. Split boards are having a bit of a boom of late and Ride's getting in on the action. This is essentially a split version of the Warpig, but with a couple of upgrades, including an upgraded base and featuring a hybrid camber profile (as opposed to the flat to rocker on the Warpig) - so it's pretty much a cross between the Super Pig - it's the Super Pig with a Warpig flex - and of course it's split. 
  • Benchwarmer - New aggressive all-mountain-freestyle asym board. In some ways takes over from the Helix - the same category of board, same camber profile, same core and some other similar features to the construction. But it's not just a name change. The Benchwarmer features a completely new shape and sizings.   
  • Zero - another asymmetrical all-mountain-freestyle offering, but this time a more mellow option. Softer flexing and an easier going camber profile than the benchwarmer. In terms of categorizing it, it takes over from the outgoing Machete, but it's, again, not just a name change. It features the same camber profile, core and flex as the Machete, but has a whole new shape and sizings, and is asym, which the Machete wasn't. 
  • Zero Jr - As the name suggests, this is a youth version of the Zero. It has some tech downgrades - like an extruded base, no carbon stringers and things like that, but otherwise a smaller version of the new Zero. Again, in some ways replacing the Machete Jr. 
  • Smokescreen - new freeride board, but looks to be a more mellow ride than the typical freeride board. Mid-flexing with a relatively friendly looking camber profile. Looks like something that would suit an intermediate rider, or a less aggressive rider who wants to get off groomer more, ride powder and isn't really interested in riding too much switch or park.  

Exiting 2021 Ride Snowboards 

The 2021 boards that aren't returning with a 2022 model: 

  • Helix - in some ways being replaced by the benchwarmer, but more than just a name change (see more details under the Benchwarmer above)
  • Machete - in some ways being replaced by the Zero, but more than just a name change (see more details under the Zero above)
  • Machete Jr - in some ways being replaced by the Zero Jr, but more than just a name change (see more details under the Zero Jr above)
  • Back Talk - there's nothing that directly replaces the Back Talk. However, the new Benchwarmer is similar enough - and it comes in a 142, 147 and 151 - and those sizes essentially replace the Back Talk's 142, 146 & 150 (no replacement for it's 138). Again, it's not an exact swap, but there is something to fill the void.

Of course these are only broad categories as every board is different, but this is a rough guide.

Summary

So there you have the 2022 Ride snowboards. 

A little bit going on with the line with 4 exits and 5 new entries. 

Out with the Old

The Helix, Machete, Machete Jr & Back Talk are all exiting. But they all get replacements of sorts. Nothing like for like, but the gaps they left have been filled. The Helix & Machete have been in the line for quite some time, but their legacies have been surpassed by the Benchwarmer and Zero. 

In with the New

2022 sees the introduction of Ride's first split board - the Splitpig - which is essentially a split version of a cross between the Superpig and Warpig.  

There's also a new mellow freeride board in the Smokescreen. 

Then there's the Benchwarmer, Zero & Zero Jr - which in a lot of ways replace the outgoing Helix, Machete and Machete Jr, but they've also got some new aspects about them, which make them more than just name/graphic changes.
