2027 Burton Snowboards Lineup Overview

Burton has made a lot more changes for 2027 than the one-model increase in its snowboard count might suggest.

The snowboard lineup grows from 39 to 40 models, with six additions and five departures. The binding range expands more decisively, from 34 to 39 models, without a single 2026 binding being cut. Boots see the biggest numerical change: ten new models and four retiring models take the range from 38 to 44.

The biggest story is Burton's continuing expansion of Step On. There are new Cartel X, Lexa X and women's X Re:Flex bindings, a new Plus tier of Step On boots and meaningful upgrades to the existing X and X Pro boots. At the same time, Burton is taking the Waverange name beyond Step On for the first time, with six new traditional-binding-compatible Waverange boots across men's and women's lines.

On the snowboard side, Burton introduces two very different Family Tree shapes, moves its ultra-premium Mystery construction from the Deep Thinker to the Process and brings the Talent Scout back. The new Spellbinder combines a progression-friendly personality with gender-neutral sizing from 139 to 165W.

New Burton Snowboards and Retiring Models 

Five departures sounds significant, but several of the new boards fill at least some of the resulting gaps.

The Spellbinder takes over much of the progression-friendly territory left by the Instigator PurePop and Hideaway. It’s much closer to the Instigator Purepop though. It uses PurePop Camber vs the Hideaway's Flat Top profile, and Burton presents it as one gender-neutral model rather than separate men's and women's boards. Its broad 139 to 165W size run is the key to making that work.

The annual Mystery slot sees the lightweight, premium directional freeride Mystery Deep Thinker replaced by the Mystery Process. The Mystery Process applies Burton's most expensive construction to a twin, PurePop Camber Process platform.

The Full Nelson covers some of the powder and freeride ground vacated by the Alekesam but it’s not a like-for-like successor.

The strongly tapered, 3D, directional-flat powder specialist, the Channel Surfer received no direct replacement.

New Burton Snowboard Bindings and Retiring Models 

The lack of retirements means every new binding adds another position to the range rather than replacing an existing model.

Three of the five additions expand Step On. The Step On Re:Flex platform now gains a men's Cartel X and women's Lexa X, while the new women's Step On X creates a direct counterpart to the updated men's model.

Burton is also reviving one of its best-known binding names. The Malavita (which is what we use as our control bindings) returns as a medium-flex, freestyle-focused Re:Flex binding, and the new Malavita X adds a stiffer, more premium version with a leather Reactstrap. Neither Malavita is offered in EST for 2027.

New Burton Snowboard Boots and Retiring Models 

The Step On Photon disappears as Burton continues reorganizing that range around the newer Highshot and Waverange families.

The Photon Step On Wide model also goes, but Burton's wide models aren’t getting separate listings on their website or in their catalog. Several of Burton’s boots still come in wide sizes, but they are part of the sizing choice now, rather than separate products. That said, a lot of retailers will likely show them as separate products, rather than part of the sizing option.

The new Plus tier fills the large price and spec gap between the base model and the X model Step On boots. It combines a dual-zone BOA closure, Imprint 3 liner and a medium, all-mountain personality without the X tier's internal Ankle Hammock.

The other major development is the traditional Waverange family. Burton calls these "strap" boots in the dealer catalog because they are made for conventional strap bindings, but all six use BOA closures. They mirror the Waverange Step On hierarchy at X Pro, X and Plus.

Changes to Returning Burton Snowboards

Process and Process Flying V

The Process and Process Flying V receive the biggest returning-board redesign.

New 143, 146 and 165W sizes expand both ends of the range.

The tip and tail shape is rounder.

The sidecut is tighter between the bindings and mellower toward the contact points.

The core retains the Super Fly II 700G name, but Burton describes it as being updated.

It now has a centered reference stance, where previous models had a ½” (12.5mm) setback.  

We got out on the Process and will be updating our current Process review in late August or early September.

Cultivator

The Cultivator receives a less visible but significant platform change with The Channel replaced by conventional 4x2 inserts. Burton also adds Infinite Ride.

Changes to Returning Burton Bindings

Step On X Re:Flex

The men's Step On X gets a major redesign, and the new women's model launches with the same construction.

The new Re:Flex baseplate and heel-cup design introduces Heel Grabber technology. When the boot engages, it creates an additional connection between the heel hoop and heel cup, reducing play and increasing response. Burton also supplies a new, extra-stiff Re:Flex disc and a magnetic-reactive hi-back finish.

The towers reinforce the heel area of the baseplate, making entry easier and increasing response on heel-side turns.

Step On Re:Flex Base-Tray Redesign

A redesigned Re:Flex base tray is brought in across the updated Step On X and Genesis, the women's Escapade and the new Cartel X, Lexa X and women's X. Burton says the new construction aligns the Re:Flex aesthetic more closely with EST while updating dampening.

The Genesis Re:Flex and Escapade Re:Flex also move from the older Step On FLAD to DialFLAD.

Freestyle Re:Flex

The entry-priced Freestyle binding gets a visual and comfort update rather than any major updates. Burton replaces the old hi-back treatment with a previous-generation Genesis-inspired design, new EVA padding and MicroFLAD.

Changes to Returning Burton Boots

Highshot X Pro and Waverange X Pro Step On

The men's and women's X Pro models gain BOA's H5 dial. It allows the rider to back tension off without fully releasing the boa coiler.

The Highshot X Pro also gets a specific shell-lacing change. The primary shell lace now extends to the bottom of the tongue, rather than covering only the upper tongue. Burton says this increases the boot's stiffness and support, particularly in toe-side flex. The Waverange X Pro retains its existing lacing layout.

The men's and women's X models inherit the internal Ankle Hammock previously limited to the X Pro tier. One BOA dial controls shell closure, while the second independently adjusts the internal hammock. They also move to the new Asym Imprint 3 liner and gain the H5 dial.

Summary of Burton 2027 Snowboards Lineup Changes

Burton's 2027 lineup is less about one headline technology than about filling gaps and extending platforms.

The snowboard range gets broader at both ends. The Spellbinder brings a wide range of sizes in what is essentially a sizing updated replacement for the outgoing Instigator Purepop. The Pretty Good Company adds a lower-priced true-twin camber option with 2x4 inserts in place of the Channel and the Mystery Process takes the brand's premium construction Mystery model in a more freestyle-oriented direction.

The Full Nelson and Time Thief are the new Family Tree additions and have clearly different personalities.

On the bindings front Burton adds depth without subtraction. The Re:Flex Step On offerings are expanded with the new Cartel X Re:Flex Step-Ons, Lexa X Re:Flex Step-Ons and a new women’s version of the Step On X ReFlex. The EST Step On models get more structure in the heel area and in the strap binding realm, the Malavita returns and also adds an “X”: model.
